The foodiewords iPhone App is now available from the Apple App Store

Welcome to my foodiewords blog! I’m very excited to announce the release of Edition One of my little book entitled “foodiewords – Anne Stanfield’s Food & Dining Lexicon”.  It’s a 200 page pocket book, about the size of a traveller’s language phrase book with over 2300 food and dining terms with meanings, origins, pronunciations of foreign words.  It’s peppered with my personal food and travel anecdotes.

If you want a copy of ‘foodiewords’, it’s for sale on my Shop page for only $14.99.

I’m presently having an Apple iPhone app developed…in the same name ‘foodiewords’.  It will be available very soon.

I love food, ingredients, eating, dining with friends, cooking with friends, food words…well really that’s all things related to food.  Does that make me a foodie?  Perhaps.  You might wonder about the word ‘lexicon’ in my title.  A lexicon is a dictionary, in particular a dictionary relating to a particular subject or field of interest…in this case the wonderful world of food and dining.

I began my ‘foodiewords’ journey in late 2002 when my delightful husband, Will, took me to one of Brisbane’s best restaurants to celebrate our wedding anniversary…hmm…that would have been our 32nd anniversary.  After we checked out the menu, Will asked the waiter to describe the ‘confit de canard’?  Will knew canard meant duck but he wasn’t sure about confit.  The waiter said he didn’t know for sure but thought it was pan fried duck.  That waiter’s lack of real understanding was nothing new to me and it was the catalyst for me to compile ‘foodiewords’.  I often feel a little embarrassed for a waiter who doesn’t know their menu and even more amazed when they haven’t even tasted the food on their menu…ahh but that’s another story…training and nurturing restaurant staff.

My plan for this blog is to talk about food and ingredients, what they are and where they come from, including the strange, the wonderful, the nutritious, the odd and the ordinary.  I’m still thinking about how this blog will unfold and I’m only beginning to understand wonderful WordPress and how best to use it.

Anyway, to all you foodies and lovers and students of food and good cooking and eating and dining out…please come back and visit this blog from time to time for some interesting conversations and exciting information about food.  And look out for my ‘foodiewords’ iPhone app, coming soon!

More about my foodiewords journey in my next blog.

Loving & sharing food & words

Have to learn more how to use the applications – look forward to reading the book – Like the name of the author.
Remember having an interesting evening at a restaurant in Bayonne last year becoming educated about the menu via a book often used by the wait staff for various foreigners. I remember it adding fun to the evening.
Anne – We hope your book is a great success.

Hello Anne – the other Anne Stanfield! Thanks for the greetings. No doubt you would know some new words I could add to my next edition if you feel like sending me some. Love to Don and your tin lids!

Congratulations. I’m most impressed and am surprised how many people are unaware what a lexicon is so all the new words will be eye openers.
